History

Trousers used in warm climate were made of lightweight canvas drill, either in light sage-green or sand/tan-coloured. Enlisted men wore shorts, while Officers wore long lightweight trousers. Generals wore breeches made from lightweight cotton drill. For more information, see the entry for Breeches.

The only difference between the shorts and the long trousers is that the shorts only reach down to the knee. Both were either made of regular smooth cloth or cord-like ribbed cloth.
