History

The SS Command Flags were instituted on August 17, 1933. They are in the same design as the SA command flags, but in black and white instead of red and white. They were available either as flags or as vehicle pennants.
Early examples use an SA/political eagle design, but in 1936 with the introduction of the new and unique SS eagle design the flags were updated. The eagle always faces to the viewer’s right.
A strengthening bar was worn along the upper edge of the command flags and pennants so that they were unable to collapse on days without wind.

The Abschnitt (sub-district) command flag is rectangular and divided diagonally from the bottom left corner to the upper right corner. The left side is black and the right side is white. The left side features a white triangle on the black base that contains a silver-coloured eagle emblem with swastika in wreath. The right part features the sub-district’s number in black Roman numerals.
The flag measures 60x90 cms, whereas the vehicle pennant measures 20x35 cms.
