Constructed of gilded bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, tied together at the bottom by a ribbon with a date of “1891”, with central initials “DASV”, the reverse with a horizontal pinback and maker’s mark of “E. SCHMIDHÄUSSLER, PFORZHEIM”, measuring 43.18 mm (w) x 38.00 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
The Badge was conferred in recognition of exceptional achievements in the field of heavy athletics, such as weight lifting, body building, tug of war, and boxing.
The Type I badges feature the acronym for the German Athletics Sports Federation "Deutscher Schwerathletik-Verband" (DSAV) on the obverse, but do not have a swastika.
