Physical Description and Item Details

A GAU Essen Tinnie-Participant Badge - Participant badge in gilded aluminum (not to be confused with Gau Honor Essen badge). Maker marked, in very fine condition.

History

The Badge was instituted in 1935. The Badge in Gold was to be awarded for special cases. The Badge in Silver was awarded to all members of the Gau who owned the Golden Party Badge, as well as meritorious members without the Golden Party Badge.

The Nazi Regime divided Germany into a series of districts of “Gaue” to facilitate nationwide Party administration.

Every Gau was administered by a Gauleiter or “District Leader.

There are only four known examples of the Gold Badge composed of Gold. However, many gilt versions exist. These were likely Day Badges and Participant Badges.
