Physical Description and Item Details


A Waffen-SS Schützenabzeichen/Marksmanship badge; in silvered cupal; depicting a “bulls eye” surrounded by four rings on a mobile square plaque within an oak leaf wreath, with a ribbon on the top and bottom, the bottom marked with “SS” runes; vertical pinback broken off; marked with the “SS” runes and “Ges. Gesch.” on the reverse; measuring 33mm in diameter; very fine condition.

History


The Badge was instituted by Heinrich Himmler and was worn by members of the SS to denote marksmanship qualifications.

The II Class Badge has no oak leaves on the lower wreath in front of the target board.

The Badge was forfeited if an individual was dishonourably discharged.
