History

The Badge was established on August 19, 1940, and was conferred upon all members of the armed forces who participated in the Battle of Narvik, which occurred from April 9th to June 9th, 1940.

There are two versions of this medal, a grey metal type awarded to the army and air force, and a gilt type awarded to the navy.

The coloured cloth backing of the badge varies according to the military service branch of the recipient.

Army/Heer badges were awarded with a gray cloth backing.

Navy/Kriegsmarine badges were awarded with a dark blue cloth backing.

Air Force/Luftwaffe badges were awarded with a gray-blue cloth backing.

The badge was designed by Dr. Richard Klein.
