A fine example of a Golden HJ Leader’s Sports Proficiency Badge; constructed of gilt bronze and black enamels; the obverse with a center mobile swastika, circumscribed “Für Leistungen in der HJ” (German - For Proficiency in the HJ), with a black enameled ring, an upward pointing arrow superimposed on the badge, with a laurel wreath border; the reverse with a vertical pinback and a functional hinge/catch assembly; numbered “4260”, and maker marked “RZM M1/101” for “Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen” on the reverse; measuring 40x50.5mm; weighing 35.4 grams; in overall extremely fine condition.
The Badge was instituted by the Reich Youth Leader, Baldur von Schirach, to reward Hitler Youth Officers, ranking from Junior Officer to Warrant Officer, for achieving the highest scores in the 10 Officer Test Exercises of the Hitler Youth.
The 10 Officer Test Exercises of the Hitler Youth were created by Baldur von Schirach on January 18, 1937.
The tests included:
A 1000 metre sprint;
A 1000 metre run;
High jump;
Long jump;
Weight lifting;
Shot-putting;
A 300 metre swim;
Shooting a small calibre gun supported;
Shooting a small calibre gun unsupported;
And a route march with a full pack.
There are two version of the badge. The reverse of the regular Gold Badge is numbered, while the reverse of the Gold Badge (with "B") is not numbered and has an engraved "B".
