Physical Description and Item Details


Constructed of magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of an oval chain wreath, with a central anchor overlaid by crossed swords, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 41.05 mm (w) x 46.14 mm (h), weighing 7.3 grams, in better than very fine condition.

History


The Naval Wound Badge was instituted by Emperor Wilhelm II to reward and recognize the sacrifice of German Navy personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.

The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.

The Silver Badge was conferred for three to four wounds.

The Black Badge was conferred for one to two wounds.
