Physical Description and Item Details


Constructed of gilded bronze, screw back style with plate, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel wreathed with a central Stahlhelm (Steel Helmet) on top of two crossed swords, unmarked measuring 36.83 mm (w) x 41.77 mm (h), weighing 8.5 grams, in near extremely fine condition.

History


The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.

The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.

The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.

The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
