Rare Type WWI Wound Badge; Silver Grade - in silvered tombac, excellent quality, with a large clamshell style screwback device, of light construction (total weight is 13.9 grams!); in slightly worn conidian, and very rare type.

History


The Wound Badge was instituted by King Wilhelm II to recognize and reward the sacrifice of German Military personnel wounded in active service during the First World War.

The Gold Badge was conferred for five or more wounds, as well as to personnel who had lost a limb.

The Silver Badge was conferred for three or fours wounds.

The Black Badge was conferred for one or two wounds.
