History

The Militia Long Service Cross was established on December 11, 1879 by Duke Wilhelm of Brunswick. It was conferred upon Officers and doctors who rendered service of at least 8 years longer in the military than what was the minimum requirement.

Following Brunswick's joining of the North German Confederation in 1886, recipients of the award received the Prussian Militia Long Service Award for 20 Years.
