Physical Description


A circular medal constructed of silver. The obverse bears the crowned monogram of King Ernst August of Hannover. The reverse bears the inscription "KRIEGER VERDIENST" (warrior's merit), encompassed by a laurel wreath. The name of the recipient of the medal is engraved on the rim. On a loop for suspension.

History


The General Military Merit Medal was established by King Ernst August of Hannover on June 5, 1841. The medal was conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers for meritorious military service.

Approximately 7,000 medals were awarded.
