The Fire Fighter Merit Medal, 1911 was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich August on November 11, 1911, and it was conferred upon individuals who rendered 15 or 25 years of faithful service within Oldenburg's firefighting services. It was also conferred in recognition of extraordinary achievements.

Senior firemen received the award after 15 years, and others received it after 25.
