The Medal was founded by Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig and was conferred upon Officers and Soldiers who fought under Feldmarschall Blücher during the Waterloo Campaign of 1815.

The name of the recipient and the battalion they served in was engraved on the rim of the medal.
