The Wilhelm Order was founded by German Emperor and King of Prussia Wilhelm II as the kingdom’s highest civilian order. The order was dedicated to Wilhelm’s grandfather, Emperor Wilhelm I “The Great”.
The order was awarded to men, women, and young ladies. It was awarded as an incentive for future and present generations to work for the well-being of the people. It was conferred upon individuals for outstanding services in the socio-political area. Decorations were returned after the death of the recipient.
There were no official statutes created. A total of 65 were awarded between 1896 and 1913. One known recipient was Dr. Franz Casper, ministerial director in the office of the interior, in 1911.
The inscription “WIRKE IM ANDENKEN AN KAISER WILHELM DEN GROSSEN” translates to “Act in the memory of Emperor Wilhelm the Great”.
The Collar consists of single smoothback letter links, connected by a central ring. Two rear eagle heads form the clasp at the back. The medal, featuring a portrait of Wilhelm, is circular with a laurel wreath around the exterior.
