Nishan-i-Astour. Instituted in 1920. Type IV (1931-1960) Hardshelled, wooden-framed, red cloth exterior, marked with a gilt Afghan coat-of-arms within a corn wreath on the lid, padded salmon-coloured silk-like lining which is Afghan maker marked on the inside lid, salmon-coloured velvet raised platform with recessed medal bed for the breast star, dual-hinged, latch closure, measuring 135 mm (w) x 300 mm (h) x 56.5 mm (d), soiling and wear evident on the exterior, lightly soiled velvet on the medal bed, fine.
The Order of the Star (Nishan-i-Astour) was established by Amir Abdu'r Rahman around 1901. The Order originally awarded in a single class in recognition of faithful service provided to the nation. The Order was later modified and expanded into 4 Classes by King Muhammad Zahir Shah.
