In brass with red, green and black enamels, measuring 32 mm in diameter, original ribbon, suspended from a traditional Soviet-style rectangular brass frame with screwback.
The Medal from the Grateful Afghan People was established in 1988 and was awarded to members of the Soviet Union military for outstanding service in Afghanistan.
The reverse features both Arabic and Russian script which translates to "From the Grateful Afghan People."
