The Medal for the 20th Anniversary of the Revolution was instituted circa 1972 in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the 1952 Revolution which overthrew the Monarchy and established the Republic.

A brass disk inscribed with an Arabic numeral "20" was authorized for wear on the ribbon when the ribbon was worn alone.
