History

The Order of the Military Star was initially established by King of Egypt, Ahmad Fouad I on December 6, 1919. However, the Military Star was redesigned and restructured following the 1952 revolution which resulted in the fall of the Monarch. The Military Star is awarded to any Officer or foreigners in recognition of exceptional service and demonstrations of courage and self-sacrifice. Acts of heroism in battle or other notable service is eligible for the award. When appropriate, the Star may be personally presented by the President of Egypt.

The Star may be awarded posthumously.

The recipient's service details recognized by the award along with a serial number is engraved on the reverse.

There are multiple versions of the Star which vary by the obverse design. The Star features various Eagle or Hawk designs according to the political governance of Egypt. Stars issued during the Republic of Egypt between 1953 and 1958 feature a design of an Egyptian Eagle, while Stars issued during the United Arab Republic of Egypt feature an altered Eagle design. Stars issued during the Federation of the Arab Republic between 1971 and 1984 feature a Hawk design. Since 1984, the Star has featured a distinct Eagle design. More research is needed to verify the exact variations in the Eagle and Hawk designs across these time periods.

There may be additional versions of the Star.
