History

The Medal of Work was originally established as the Order of Labour (Wissam al-'Amal) (see IRQ122). It is believed that the award was instituted between 1970 and 1982. The Medal was awarded to members of the Ba'ath Part in recognition of specifically meritorious service to the party.

The Medal features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "Order of Work One Arab Nation and One Aim" as well as on the reverse which translates to "The Iraqi Republic."

There are various versions of the Medal which vary by composition, and there may be a bronze medal not featured here. It is uncertain if the Medal was issued in multiple Classes according to the composition. More research is needed.
