History

The Police Distinguished Service Medal (Nut al-Shurta lil Khidmat al-Mumtazah) was originally established by King Faisal I on February 13, 1927, as the "Royal Distinguished Service Medal" (see IRQ107), but was modified after the establishment of the Iraqi Republic. The Medal is awarded to members of the Iraqi Police Force and Auxiliary Forces for acts of bravery.

A silver star emblem is authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote subsequent qualifying acts of gallantry.

The Silver Medal features an Arabic inscription which translates to "Police Distinguished Service Medal."
