History

The Royal Police Distinguished Service Medal (Nut al-Shurta lil Khidmat al-Mumtazah) was established by King Faisal I on February 13, 1927.

The Medal was created to reward members of the Iraqi Police Force and Auxiliary Forces for acts of bravery. The Medal was retained and modified after the Fall of the Kingdom of Iraq and the establishment of the Iraqi Republic in 1958 (see IRQ124).

A silver star emblem is authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote subsequent qualifying acts of gallantry.

The Silver Medal features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "Police Distinguished Service Medal."
