Physical Description and Item Details


An ovular medal, consisting of a silvered metal, the obverse consists of a green enamel laurel leaf border with a cedar tree of green and brown enamel, surrounded with the Arabic inscription LEBANESE REPUBLIC, MILITARY MEDAL, 1948, the reverse consists of a green enamel laurel leaf border with a smaller green enamel laurel leaf border encompassing the Arabic inscription SACRIFICE AND PURSUIT, with a ring suspension on a yellow and green ribbon.

History


The Military Medal was instituted by Government Law on June 2, 1948. The Medal is awarded to Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted personnel of the Lebanese Armed Forces in recognition of meritorious and long service. Major-generals and higher ranks who have commanded the army for a minimum of 2 years or who are appointed ministers may also be eligible for the award.
