History

The Faithful Service Medal may also be referred to as the "Good Service in the Arabian Gulf Medal" or as the "Good and Faithful Service Medal." The Medal was instituted prior to the establishment of the UAE and the issuing state is uncertain. The Medal is believed to have been awarded to Arab military personnel of any rank serving in the Trucial Oman Scouts and the Abu Dhabi Defence Force in recognition of good and faithful service of 8 years or more. British foreigners who served in either force were also eligible for the award. Approximately 500 Medals were manufactured by Spink and Son Ltd., however, it is uncertain if the Medal was ever issued or authorized for wear by the United Arab Emirates governing authority.

Clasps featuring an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translate to "For 16 Years Service" or "For 24 Years Service" were authorized for wear on the Medal ribbon to denote a subsequent 8 or 16 respective years of qualifying service.

The Medal features an Arabic inscription which translates to "Coast of Oman" as well as a reverse Arabic inscription which translates to "Faithful."

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by composition.
