The General Service Medal for Korea is awarded to Australian Defence Force personnel who participated in operations in South Korea during the period between 28 July 1953 and 19 April 1956. In order to qualify for this medal, an individual had to have participated in an operation in South Korea, or any location 161 km seaward from the South Korean coast, for at least 30 days.

The obverse of the medal features the map of South Korea with polar projection lines in the background. The inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL KOREA’. The reverse of the medal features the inscription ‘POST ARMISTICE SERVICE 1953-1956’ surrounded by gum leaves and blossoms. The medal is surmounted by the Federation Star, which attaches to a straight suspender bar. The recipient’s service number, initials, and surname is located on the rim.

The ribbon features a central yellow stripe, with light blue stripes on each side, and white edges.
