The Service Award was instituted by the President of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, by the Honours and Awards Act on March 8, 1995. The Fiji Honours System was established to promote national unity and to celebrate outstanding contributions made in service of the State.
The Medal is awarded to territorials under the rank of Warrant Officer in recognition of 15 years or more of service.
Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters SA.
