History

The New Zealand Fire Brigades Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was established by Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand by Royal Warrant on September 8, 1976. It was originally created to reward firefighters for 14 years of service but was amended on October 15, 1981 to include fire brigades and to recognise members of the New Zealand Police Force whose conduct warrants an award and who have rendered 14 years of continuous service.

Clasps are awarded for each additional 7 years served.

The Silver Medal features the recipient’s name engraved on the rim.
