History

The Royal New Zealand Volunteer Reserve Decoration was established by Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand by Royal Warrant on May 6, 1985, with eligibility dating back to 1977. It replaces the British Naval Volunteer Reserve Decoration and is awarded to Commissioned Officers in the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve in recognition of 15 years of service. Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters VRD.

Clasps are awarded for each additional 10 years of service. For each clasp, a silver rosette may be added to the ribbon when worn alone.

The Medal features the recipient’s name engraved on the reverse.
