This medal was instituted in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the defence of Sevastopol in 1855. It was conferred upon members of the Army, Navy, clergy, and medical staff who served in battles that occurred.

The obverse is dated "1855-1905". The reverse inscription translates to: "Our Fathers Trusted in Thee and Thou Has Delivered Them".
