This medal was established during the reign of Alexander I in commemoration of the crossing of Russian forces from Finland to Sweden.

It was conferred upon enlisted men who participated in the operations leading to the crossing of the Swedish coast.

The reverse inscription translates to: "For the Crossing to the Swedish Coast".
