This medal was created by Peter the Great to commemorate the Battle of Poltava.

The large silver medal was awarded to non-commissioned officer and the small one to enlisted men.

The obverse inscription translates to: "Tsar Peter Alekseevich Sovereign of All Russia", and the reverse inscription translates to: "For the Battle of Poltava."
