Originally, this medal an Imperial Russian Order. It was re-established by the Russian Federation as an Order in 1992.
If the medal is not worn, a ribbon bar with the Roman numeral for "three" is worn.
The III Class Cross features the reverse Russian inscription translated to: "third class". It also features the initials "SG" (for Saint George) in Cyrillic script.
