History

This medal is conferred upon Kazan residents who fought in the Great Patriotic War, workers working and living in Kazan for at least a 6 month period during the war, and to those who made significant developments to the city of Kazan.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "In Commemoration of the 1000th Anniversary of Kazan". The reverse is dated "1005-2005".

The medal was discontinued on September 7, 2010.
