The Diamond Jubilee Medal (Hirak Mahotsava) was instituted by Maharaja Sayajirao III in 1936 in commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the Maharaja's succession to the throne. The Medal is awarded in 3 Grades.

The I Class Medal is composed of Gold and was reserved for royal members of the Gaekwad household.

The reverse features an inscription in Devanagari which translates to "Diamon Jubilee Vaiskakha Brighter Moon Day 7 Samvat 1931-1991."
