History

The Order of the Sun at Daybreak or Dawn (Arunaditya) was established by HH Farzand-i-Khas-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia Shirimant Maharaja Sir Sayaji Rao III Gaekwar Sena Khaos Khel Shamsher Bahadur in 1909. The Order of the Sun at Daybreak or Dawn (Arunaditya) may have been created as the III Class of the Order of the Sun. However, due to variations in classification across sources, the 3 Orders are classified here as separate products associated with the Order of the Sun. The Order is thought to have been made obsolete in 1941 or 1956.

The Order of the Sun at Daybreak or Dawn (Arunaditya) Decoration is worn from a neck ribbon and features a Sanskrit inscription of the Order's motto, "SATYAMEVA JAYATE", which translates to "Truth Shall Triumph." The obverse also features an inscription which translates to "Baroda State."

The Decoration is similar in design to the Order of the Ascending Sun Decoration but is composed of silver instead of gold.

The design of the royal cypher Order may have been altered in 1939 to reflect Pratap Singh's accession to the throne.
