History

The War Hospital Medal was established by Maharaja Raol Shri Sir Bhavsinhji in 1916 in commemoration of service on board and treatment in the War Hospital during the Great War between 1916 and 1918. The War Hospital was founded by Maharaja Sir Bhavsinhji Takntsinhji and his Maharani (Queen Consort) in January of 1916 through their private funds. The hospital only admitted Indian Soldiers, who were eligible for the award of the Medal. Estimations place the number of awards of the War Hospital Medal at approximately 628. Non-state subjects are also believed to have been eligible for the award. The Medal was issued in 2 Classes.

The I Class Medal is composed of Silver.
