The motto of the order is Kapada Allah Berserah, meaning Unto God Resigned.

The I Class is the Grand Commander ("Dato Sri Paduka") is restricted to 16 individuals. The II Class Commander ("Dato Paduka") is restricted to 24 individuals. The Companion ("Stia") is restricted to 32 individuals.

Until 1960, J.W Benson Ltd. of London manufactured all Johore's insignia.

The Knight Grand Commander Breast Star is composed of silver. The design shows five flame-like rays with gold crescents and stars between the rays. The central medallion bears the motto of the order and consists of a white field with a crown, the name of the Prophet and the crescent and star in the center. Around the medallion is a blue garter.
