History

This Order was conferred upon Bulgarians, foreign citizens, and organizations in recognition of meritorious service in the fields of culture, science, or information. The Order was also awarded to recipients who had rendered valuable service within the education of the Bulgarian population.

It was a continuation and redesign of the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius founded during the Kingdom of Bulgaria.

It was discontinued on April 5, 1991.

The Order was designed by Petar Doychinov and engraved by Onik Odabashyan.

The obverse features an inscription in Cyrillic script.
