History

This Order was originally founded by Alexander I to commemorate his accession to the rank of Prince of Bulgaria

The Order was first instituted in 1880, and it was re-instituted in its contemporary form on May 29, 2003 after a 57 years hiatus.

The modern Order is conferred upon civilians and military personnel in recognition of outstanding acts of gallantry and heroism that have strengthened the Republic.

The awards for civilian services do not have crossed swords, while the awards for military services feature crossed swords through the centre of the cross.

The obverse inscription translates to "For Bravery." The reverse inscription translates to "Republic of Bulgaria."

The III Class grade is also known as the Officer.

The III Class is awarded to Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted men.

See Military Order for Bravery, BGR101, in the Orders of the Kingdom of Bulgaria (1878-1946/1950) for more information.
