History


The Order was founded by Sultan Abdul-Hamid II to award members of the Imperial family, and other high ranking dignitaries, for literary, military, and political merit.

The cypher of the Sultan is portrayed in the centre of the obverse medallion, and the cypher is surrounded by the Order's motto that translates to "PATRIOTISM, ZEAL, BRAVERY, LOYALTY".
