History


The Recognition Medal (Medalha de reconhecimento) was founded bu the Portuguese government on December 27, 2002. It is awarded to Portuguese military personnel who were captured and held prisoner during combat, peacekeeping, or humanitarian missions.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Recognition," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Who Sacrificed Themselves for the Homeland."
