Physical Description and Item Details


A circular medal constructed of gold. The obverse bears a crowned "H" within a wreath of oak leaves tied with a bow at the bottom. The reverse bears a crowned coat of arms encompassed by the inscription "FUER VERDIENST ANHÄNGLICHKEIT U. TREUE" (for merit, loyalty, and allegiance). On a loop for suspension on a green and red striped ribbon.

History


The Medal for Merit, Loyalty, and Allegiance was instituted by Duke Heinrich of Anhalt-Köthen in 1835. The medal was conferred upon court and civil servants who rendered long, loyal, and extraordinary service.

The Gold Medal was only conferred upon high-ranking court and civil servants.
