Physical Description and Item Details

An ovular medal constructed of gold. The obverse bears the bust of Prince Regent Luitpold encompassed by the inscription "LVITPOLD PRINZ REGENT VON BAYERN". The reverse bears a crowned shield of Bavaria with the inscription "IN TREUE FEST 1905". The medal is topped with an ornate arabesque detail and an oak leaf loop suspension.

History

The medal was established by Prince Regent Luitpold as a merit and commemorative medal. It was awarded with a certificate, which would be passed down to the recipient’s descendants.

In anticipation of his 90th birthday, the Prince Regent ordered the creation of the Gold Medal with Crown as a senior award. The award was no longer awarded after his death in 1912, and was issued for less than two years, making it quite rare.
