Physical Description and Item Details


A straight-armed cross pattée constructed of gold and enamels. The arms of the cross are in blue enamels. The arms of the cross end in gold indents, and the quadrants between the arms contain rays. The obverse centre bears the crowned monogram "CC". The reverse center bears the number "25" on a rayed background, on a horizontally elongated suspension with laurel leaf decorations.

History


The Long Service Cross for Officers, Type I was established by Duke Carl II of Brunswick on April 2, 1827. The cross was conferred upon Officers who had rendered military service for 25 years. A total of 7 crosses were awarded.
This version was awarded from 1827 to 1833. Although it is not confirmed, there is a potential the cross was produced in silver gilt as well as gold.
