The Long Service Crosses were established by Prince Georg Wilhelm in 1850, and were conferred upon Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers who rendered long and faithful military service. When calculating the number of years served, war years counted for double.
The I Class Gold Bar was conferred upon Non-Commissioned Officers and soldiers for 21 years of service.
In 1913, the service years required for a the I Class Award were reduced to 15.
