History


The Medal for Arts and Sciences was instituted by Duke Adolf following the foundation of the Merit Order of Adolph of Nassau on May 5, 1858. It was conferred in recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of art and science.

The Silver Medal was conferred upon 17 recipients.

The medal became obsolete after Nassau was annexed by Prussia.
