Physical Description and Item Details


A smooth George’s cross with raised edges, constructed of silver. Between the cross arms is a circumferential laurel wreath. The obverse cross arms feature the inscription ‘SCHWARZBURGS BRAVEN KRIEGERN FÜR DEUTSCHLANDS BEFREIUNG’ (‘to the brave warriors of Schwarzburg for Germany’s liberation’). The reverse features an oval centre medallion with the dates ‘1814 1815’. On a loop for suspension, on a blue ribbon with narrow white borders.

History


The Campaign Honour Cross was instituted on June 2, 1816 by Prince Friedrich Günther. It was conferred upon members of the Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt army who had rendered irreproachable service during the Campaign of 1814-1815 against France.

The awards were conferred to surviving personnel by Colonel von Brockenburg. The award is rare.
