This medal was awarded to citizens of the Russian Empire for "displaying zeal in the areas of commerce and manufacturing".

The 1846 issue features the Tsar featuring a mustache.

The obverse of this medal translates to "BY THE GRACE OF GOD NICHOLAS I EMPEROR AND AUTOCRAT OF ALL RUSSIAS" and the reverse translates to "FOR ZEAL".
