Order of Saint Stanislaus 2nd Class with Crown and Swords Features gold and enamel construction with a long, sewn ribbon. Original ribbon has a locking mechanism. On the suspension ring of the crown is a maker mark from the Saint Petersburg royal court jeweler, Julius Keibel “IK” along with gold hallmark “56”. On the suspension loop are similar gold hallmarks “56” along with an unreadable date of production (perhaps 1866?) and the city marks of Saint Petersburg. The reverse of the arms of the cross feature a double headed eagle with the maker mark for the royal court jeweler Julius Keibel of Saint Petersburg. A magnificent example of the finest old Russian goldsmith quality with the eagles at the apex of the cross beautifully engraved. The swords feature polished blades with matt gold cross guards and grips (one grip slightly bent). The multi-piece crown is comprised of the finest translucent red enamel with “guilloche” background and “jeweler crafted borders” of exquisite painted enamel.
Originally this was a Polish Order created on May 7, 1765 by King Stanislaus II, to honour the Patron Saint of Poland, St. Stanislas of Krakow.
This Order became a Russian Order after the Polish Rebellion of 1830, when Polish forces were suppressed. It was adopted as a Russian Order in 1831.
The version with an eagle was awarded to Non-Christians, and the version with swords was awarded to military personnel.
The obverse features the initials of the Saint.
