History

The Naval Front Clasp was instituted by Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz on November 19, 1944, and was conferred upon officers and enlisted men who performed five times the service that was required for the conferral of any basic Kriegsmarine war badge. All naval personnel, except for U-Boat crew members, who had previously received a service clasp were eligible to receive the award.

The clasps were produced locally rather than in factories, and as such, they possess a wide range of sizes, compositions, and forms.

The clasp was conferred in only one grade, bronze.
